Australian Government Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet
Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan

Staff participated in online and face-to-face workshops designed to teach an Acknowledgment of Country in Ngunnawal (Ngunawal, Ngoonawal) language – the language of the traditional custodians of the ACT and surrounds. These workshops aim to increase participant’s cultural knowledge and learn how to model inclusive chairing practices.

Workshops are facilitated by Tyronne Bell, a Ngunnawal traditional custodian with extensive cultural knowledge of the local area. Since 2014, Tyronne has worked closely with AIATSIS linguists in the revitalisation of Ngunnawal language and established the Thunderstone Cultural and Land Management Services Aboriginal Corporation, to share his knowledge, family histories and perspective with others.

Since 2019, the Department has delivered 13 workshops and has had 154 staff nominate to attend.
