Reconciliation Action Plan

Innovate

July 2021–June 2023

Acknowledgement of Country

The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C) acknowledges and pays respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, whose ancestral lands and waters we live and work on throughout Australia. Our national office is located on the traditional lands of the Ngunnawal people in Canberra.

We honour the wisdom of and pay respect to Elders past and present, and acknowledge the Cultural Authorities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia.

Ngunnawal language

With both our national office and the Parliament of Australia sitting on Ngunnawal Country, our RAP pays respect to Ngunnawal (Ngunawal, Ngoonawal) culture, history and knowledge of its people by using language throughout the contents.

Advised by Tyronne and Jai Bell of Thunderstone Aboriginal Cultural Services Pty Ltd, where applicable, Ngunnawal language is used in the first instance, with the English translations afterwards.

Our Vision

Our vision for reconciliation is where we view our work through the lens of First Nations peoples, celebrating and respecting the knowledge, understandings and experiences of the custodians of the oldest living cultures in the world.

By creating connection and belonging, we aim to build a culturally safe work environment by developing and strengthening relationships with staff and stakeholders; acknowledging and respecting the two-worlds our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff walk in.

Career development and advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is a key strategic focus. Representation will play a key role in our staffing practices, from recruitment, career development, and creating talent pipelines through all classification levels.

A reconciled Australia is acknowledging the evolving journey and opportunities that await when we focus on improving the lives of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We aim to create a positive impact in our policy decisions and program outcomes to benefit the whole nation, by leveraging the perspective of the diverse skills and expertise of our people, and the community they serve.
