In 2020, PM&C was proud to have had 50 employees complete the pilot of our new Beyond Cultural Competency workshop. This workshop, delivered by Arrilla, was designed with a considered focus on the practical skills and knowledge to build cultural competency and support reconciliation.
Through a blended learning approach participants were guided through personal reflection and group activities to develop a deeper understanding of how individuals they can:
- create a respectful and inclusive workplace,
- contribute to reconciliation actions,
- identify opportunities to contribute towards positive outcomes through their role, and
- engage more confidently with First Nations colleagues, stakeholders, companies and communities.
Participants have described the workshop as insightful and engaging. Highlights of the workshop for participants were the group discussion on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership, the ‘walking a mile in someone else’s shoes’ activity and facilitator Jennifer Mar Young’s personal stories.
The practical and interactive workshop will be expanded in 2021 and beyond.
